TIGRINYA and ARABIC are the working languages. ENGLISH and ITALIAN are both widely spoken.
The other languages are AFAR, SAHO, BEGA, BILEN, NARA, KUNAMA.
Tigrinya, spoken by at least half the population, has its own script derived from the ancient language Gee ’ez, now only used in the Orthodox Church. The script has over 200 characters.
If you know a few words of Tigrinya, you'll amaze and delight the Eritreans and quickly win friends.
